Day 2: What is air pressure?

1. Air pressure is the pressure exerted by the weight of air above.
2. It is the force exerted against a surface by the continuous collision of gas particles.
3. Average air pressure at sea level is about 1 kilogram per square centimeter.
4. The amaount of pressure applied by a gas depends on the temperature and density, this is the ideal gas law.
5. Density is a measure of the amount of material packed per unit volume.

Summary

Air pressure is exerted by gas particles.

Whizzkid Section

1. The air pressure at any given altitude (height)is equal to the weight of the air above that point.
2. Air pressure decereases with increasing altitude, that is as you go up.
3. The rate at which air pressure decreases with altitude is much greater near Earth's surface.
